Lisa Taylor
A life long mover and student of the creative process, Lisa came to Yoga and Pilates from a background in modern dance and the visual arts. Whether working one-on-one with clients or in a group setting, Lisa strives to create a respectful and supportive atmosphere for exploration and learning. She utilizes the tools of Yoga and Pilates to help people gain flexibility, core strength, and awareness. Her many years of training and practice have given her a unique blend of skills to facilitate the undoing of restrictive movement and breathing patterns, and the discovery of ease in one’s body.
Lisa is a graduate of the Yoga Room Advanced Studies Program, a Yoga teacher training in the Iyengar tradition, which emphasizes alignment, anatomy and precision. At the Yoga Room she apprenticed with the Director, Donald Moyer and studied yoga therapeutics and Restorative Yoga with Judith Lasater and Katie Allen. In 2000 she traveled to India for intensive training with senior Iyengar teacher Ramanand Patel. Today her primary teacher is Angela Farmer.
She is a certified Pilates Instructor through Turning Point Studio, a program that integrates the techniques of Joseph Pilates with the latest advances in kineseology and biomechanics. She has continued her studies of the Pilates method with advanced trainings in Movement Medicine and Anatomy in Clay with Nora St. John.
As a California Certified Massage Therapist and Rosen Method Bodywork Practitioner, Lisa has sensitivity and experience in hands on manual work. Rosen Method has had a profound effect on every aspect of Lisa's work. This work has given her a deep respect for the histories held by the body. Lisa has continued to study Essential Motion, an introspective and exploratory movement practice based on Rosen Method principles, with Karen Roeper.
Lisa’s work is also influenced by her ongoing study of Buddhist meditation. She has spent time in silent retreat at Spirit Rock Meditation Center and studied Zen Buddhism with Yvonne Rand and Reb Anderson.
Lisa has been teaching since 1994. She has taught at yoga studios throughout the East Bay and at the Claremont Resort and Spa for twelve years.
